Head of Purchasing

This is a strategic level purchasing role where you will be expected to lead and manage a team to develop and deliver a robust purchasing function for the business. Managing the entire spend you will work closely with the Managing Director and internal and external stakeholders to set up and deliver sustainable purchasing procedures that drive continuous improvement across the business and its international supply chain. A key focus of the role is cost reduction and minimizing risk while maximizing value from suppliers. You will drive supplier relationships and performance and implement global sourcing strategies that introduce new and sustainable supply chains into the organisation. You will set stretched goals for yourself, the purchasing function and suppliers to deliver against a range of targets aimed at increasing competitive advantage and the bottom line.
To be successful in this role you must have 5-10 years strategic procurement experience within the heavy engineering or manufacturing industry. You should have a proven track record of implementing purchasing procedures to minimise risk and maximise cost savings. Strong negotiation, man management and organisational skills are essential.
You will have the ability to build and develop effective relationships with key stakeholders demonstrating a full understanding of their drivers and requirements while having the ability to implement solutions to fulfil these requirements.
You must be professional and hardworking with the ability to delegate, manage up and manage down. Flexibility for international travel is essential as it will be a key requirement for this role.
Preference will be given to candidates who as well as the above are educated to degree standard or have a formal purchasing qualification and experience in an industry where 110+ product lines are active. Ideally you will have experience of global sourcing across Europe and the Far East. Experience of Lean would be advantageous.
