Install, inspect and maintain industrial and domestic mechanical plant and equipment across all Council Facilities
Conduct repairs to single and 3-phase electrical systems that form part of mechanical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
All Mechanical Technicians will be required to:
Conduct diagnostic procedures on mechanical systems that are in fault status, ascertain cause and complete necessary repairs.
Conduct signed competent person’s preventative maintenance inspections, service tasks and repairs on all gas and oil fired heating plant systems to include flue cleaning as necessary.
Complete over-hauls on and reconditioning of, components for a range of mechanical systems with reference to technical drawings, specifications and Construction and Design management (CDM) Health and Safety Files.
Complete planned and reactive repairs to hot and cold storage systems and distribution pipe networks.
Design, fabricate, install and repair metal fixtures and fittings applying welding techniques.
Identify replacement parts required by reference to technical service manuals and drawings and source relevant parts from local supply agents in accordance with procedures.
Maintain proficiency in the safe use of fixed and portable specialist workshop plant and equipment in line with the requirements of the post.
Conduct all duties in accordance with safe systems of work, risk assessments and issue and record all necessary equipment in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001.
Prioritise maintenance tasks assigned in an effective and efficient manner in consultation with the Mechanical and Electrical Supervisor.
Supervise trainees and work experience personnel assigned to the Post.
Responsible for exclusive use of assigned Council vehicle to include pre-use inspections, general upkeep and cleaning in accordance with procedures.
Maintain an awareness and knowledge of evolving technical aspects of their development within area of responsibility.
Contribute to staff induction and attend training programmes in accordance with Council’s Policy and Procedures.
Participate in and ensure compliance with all Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of personal behaviour which reflect the core values of the organisation.
Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in accordance with Council’s Policies and Procedures.
Undertake any other duties appropriate to scale, which may be required from time to time.
Comply with and actively promote the Council’s policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
The post holder should be aware that the responsibilities of the post may be subject to change as a result of organisational change. The Council therefore reserves the right to change the duties of the post by adding to or amending the range of responsibilities. The post holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation.
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience in all of the following areas:
Installation, fault finding and repair of hot and cold domestic and commercial systems
Installation, servicing, fault finding and repair of domestic and commercial heating plant systems.
Full time served Plumbers with City and Guilds Advanced Craft Parts 1, 2 & 3 Certificates or equivalent.
A full current driving licence
A current Construction Skills Register card
OFTEC Certified in oil fired heating systems or equivalent.
